Kevin's career began where a lot of financial advisors' careers end: at the tax return.
For more than twenty years he has been the CPA on the other end of the phone when clients had to make real decisions about real money — the S-corp owner deciding when to sell, the executive weighing an early retirement offer, the widow trying to figure out what her next twenty years look like, the family working out how to pass a business to the next generation without breaking it.
Early on, a pattern became impossible to ignore. Most of the money his clients were losing wasn't being lost in the investments themselves. It was being lost in the seams — between the advisor and the accountant, between the estate plan and the actual balance sheet, between the recommendation made in one office and the tax consequence delivered in another five months later. Good people, all doing their jobs. Nobody watching the whole board.
So Kevin got licensed. First his Series 7 and 66, then life and health. He spent the next chapter of his career building the financial services side of Badger Sumrall — quietly, mostly for existing tax clients who asked — until it became clear that this was the practice worth building around.
Today he leads Badger Sumrall Financial Solutions, a wealth management firm that shares a team, an office, and a client picture with a working CPA practice. He specializes in tax-smart investing, business-owner planning, and retirement income strategies for clients in the mid-Atlantic and beyond.
He is a Certified Public Accountant, an Investment Adviser Representative of Cetera Investment Advisers LLC, and holds Series 7 and Series 66 securities registrations along with life and health insurance licenses. Outside the office, you'll find me giving back through local charitable work, spending time outdoors, and — most of all — making time for family.
